Plumbing in working buildings

Plumbing work planned around your open hours

In a commercial space, a plumbing project is rarely only plumbing. Updating a restroom means framing, tile, fixtures, accessories and paint. Adding a break room sink means running supply and drain lines through finished walls and floors. JACCO approaches commercial plumbing the way it approaches residential plumbing: as one part of a larger construction scope, coordinated so the space is disrupted as little as possible.

The scheduling is what changes. Water shutoffs affect everyone in a building, so they are planned in advance and timed for slower periods. Where a business has more than one restroom, they can be renovated one at a time. Work that requires opening walls or floors is contained and cleaned up daily, so customers and staff are not walking past an open trench at closing time.

Most commercial plumbing changes require permits, and some building types carry requirements that residential work does not, such as accessible fixtures or a minimum number of restrooms. Those are confirmed during the bid, along with any drawings the codes office expects. For renovations where plumbing is one part of a bigger change, see commercial remodeling.

Why JACCO

Keeping the water on and the restrooms open

Shutoffs planned, not sprung

Any interruption to water service is scheduled with you in advance and kept as short as the work allows. Where practical, new shutoff valves are added so future repairs affect one area rather than the whole building.

Licensed plumbers on the work

Plumbing is done by licensed plumbers, whether on JACCO’s crew or a trusted partner, and inspected where the permit requires it. JACCO coordinates their work with the framing, tile and finish trades around them.

Finishes that suit commercial use

Fixtures, partitions and wall surfaces in commercial restrooms are chosen for durability and easy cleaning, then installed with the same care as a high-end residential bathroom.

More remodeling FAQs

Do you offer emergency plumbing for businesses?

No. JACCO handles commercial plumbing as part of renovations and scheduled repairs and does not keep an after-hours crew on call. For water actively leaking into your space, contact a plumbing company that offers emergency response. Once the immediate problem is handled, we can take on the repairs to walls, ceilings, flooring and finishes, along with any planned upgrades that follow.

Can you renovate our restroom without closing the business?

Often, yes, particularly if the building has more than one restroom. We renovate one at a time so another stays available, schedule water shutoffs for slower hours and contain dust at the work area. If the space has a single restroom, we discuss options during the bid, from temporary arrangements to timing the work around a planned closure.

Does a commercial restroom have to meet accessibility requirements?

In many cases, yes, particularly when a restroom is renovated or added. Accessibility rules affect fixture heights, clearances, grab bars and door widths, and the specific requirements depend on the scope and the building. We confirm them with the codes office during the bid, so the design and price account for them from the start.
