Showers, vanities and the plumbing behind them

Remodeling a bathroom means rebuilding the most demanding room in the house. Supply lines, drains, venting, wiring, waterproofing, tile, cabinetry and glass all meet inside a few dozen square feet, and each has to be finished before the next can begin. Around Cottontown, that work happens in very different houses: older farmhouses, some with a single bath serving the whole household and floors that have shifted over the decades, and newer homes on rural lots whose bathrooms are roomy but finished with builder-grade tubs, surrounds and vanities.

In an older farmhouse, the floor usually gets attention before anything decorative goes in. We check the joists and subfloor, stiffen or level whatever has sagged so new tile will not crack, and replace tired supply and drain lines while the walls are open. In a newer home the structure is typically sound, so the effort goes into the plan itself: a tiled walk-in shower with a frameless glass panel where a corner tub sat unused, a longer vanity with two sinks, or a toilet moved into its own small room.

However the room starts out, the project follows the same steps. JACCO walks the space, takes measurements and writes a scope that names the tile, fixtures, vanity and glass, and the price is agreed before anything is demolished. You receive a schedule that lays out each day’s work, the bathroom and the path to it are cleaned before the crew leaves each afternoon, and we walk the finished room with you and settle every punch-list item before the job is closed out.

Septic, permits and scheduling for a Cottontown bathroom

Because Cottontown is unincorporated, a bathroom remodel that moves a drain, adds a circuit or shifts a wall is permitted through Sumner County rather than a city office. JACCO determines which permits your remodel needs as part of the bid, then files the application and schedules each inspection. On a septic system, adding a bathroom or a bedroom can raise questions about the system’s capacity, so we look into that early rather than after the walls are framed. And because this is our home community, site visits and follow-up stay close to where the crew is based.

“They also remodeled my bathroom, removing a big square tub and installing a tiled shower. Jonathon was very good with communication and he and his team were reliable and trustworthy.”

More remodeling FAQs

Can you add a second bathroom to a farmhouse that has only one?

Often, yes. A deep closet, part of an oversized bedroom or an enclosed back porch can frequently become a full or half bath. Three things decide it: whether a new drain can reach the main line with enough slope, whether the floor framing can carry tile and a tub or shower, and whether the septic system has room for the added use. We check all three when we first walk the house, so the written bid describes a plan that works rather than a hopeful guess.

Our house is on a well. Does that change how you plan the remodel?

Only a little. The plumbing work itself is much the same, but mineral-heavy well water can leave spots on glass and build up inside shower valves and heads, so it shapes a few selections, such as glass coatings and fixture finishes. If a softener or filtration system is part of your setup, we keep its connections accessible. We also locate the main shutoff and pressure tank before work begins, so water can be turned off quickly and safely whenever lines are opened.
