From level cabinets to a finished surface

A countertop is only as flat as the cabinets beneath it. Before anything is measured, the boxes are leveled, shimmed and fastened, with extra support added under overhangs, seams and heavy sinks. Stone is then templated from the installed cabinets rather than from a drawing, because real walls are rarely straight. The sink, faucet, cooktop and any other cutouts are confirmed at templating, so the fabricator cuts once. Installation follows, then sink mounting, plumbing connections and the backsplash.

Each material behaves differently. Quartz is engineered, consistent in pattern and nonporous, so it needs no sealing. Granite and other natural stone have one-of-a-kind patterns and benefit from periodic sealing. Marble is beautiful but soft, and it etches with acids like lemon juice. Butcher block brings warmth and needs regular oiling. Concrete can be shaped and tinted to suit a design. For natural stone, we encourage choosing the actual slabs in person so there are no surprises on installation day.

In older farmhouse kitchens, floors that slope and walls that wander make templating and support more important, and long runs need seams placed where they are least visible. Bathrooms deserve the same care: a vanity top with a vessel or undermount sink has to be level and sealed to the wall. Our countertop installation work also covers laundry rooms, bars and built-ins, with edge profiles and backsplash height chosen to suit each room.

Countertops on Cottontown kitchen and bath projects

Stone slabs are heavy and break if mishandled, so delivery to a rural home is planned around the driveway, steps and doorways the crew will carry them through. Where the house is an older farmhouse, the floor under a long run of cabinets or a stone island is checked for sag before templating, because stone will not flex to follow it. Replacing countertops alone rarely needs a permit, but moving a sink or adding circuits can; JACCO confirms that with Sumner County when the bid is written.

More remodeling FAQs

Will hard well water spot or damage our countertops?

It will not harm quartz or sealed granite, but it can leave mineral spots that show more on dark, polished surfaces than on lighter or honed ones. Wiping the area around the faucet dry keeps deposits from building up. Marble is more sensitive, since acidic cleaners used to remove hard-water film can etch it. If your water is hard, it is worth seeing samples wet and dry before choosing a color and finish, and keeping natural stone sealed on schedule.

Can a farmhouse sink be paired with stone countertops?

Yes, and it is a natural fit in a farmhouse kitchen. An apron-front sink needs a dedicated sink base built or modified to carry its weight, especially fireclay or cast iron, and the sink is set before the counters are templated so the stone can be cut to its exact shape. The front edge of the countertop is then finished to meet the sink cleanly. We confirm the sink model early, since its dimensions drive the cabinet and stone details.
