Whether you are replacing failing units or adding a new opening, JACCO sets each window into a properly flashed wall and trims it inside and out to suit your Franklin home.

What keeps a window dry is hidden in the wall
A window is a deliberate hole in the weather barrier, and how well it performs depends less on the unit than on the opening around it. The sill needs a sloped pan to shed any water that gets past the frame, the head needs flashing lapped in the right order, and the gap around the unit needs sealing that still lets the wall dry. Skip those steps and the result is soft sills, stained drywall and rot that nobody notices until the trim comes off.
Franklin’s older and newer homes lead to different conversations. Near downtown, original wood windows with wavy glass and deep sills are often worth keeping, and where replacement is the right call, the profile, divided lites and trim need to suit the house. In established subdivisions and newer construction, the usual complaints are fogged insulated glass, sashes that no longer lock tight and builder-grade units that were never flashed well. Some owners want a larger opening or a new window in a remodeled room, which turns a swap into framing work.
JACCO handles window installation and replacement as a general contractor, so the work around each window is part of the scope: rotted framing repaired, interior casing and stools rebuilt, siding and exterior trim patched and painted. Units are measured on site and ordered once selections are final, floors and furnishings near each opening are protected, and the work is sequenced so every opening is weathertight before the crew leaves.

Windows in Franklin’s historic districts
Windows are among the most visible features of a house, so homes in one of Franklin’s historic districts may need design review before original windows are replaced or a new opening is added on a visible wall. JACCO looks into that during the bid and before any units are ordered, because custom sizes can carry long lead times and a reorder costs everyone time. Separately, cutting a new opening or widening an existing one changes the structure of the wall, and that work generally calls for a building permit from the City of Franklin, which we apply for and schedule around.

Is it better to restore old wood windows or replace them?
It depends on the condition of the sashes and frames. Sound old-growth wood windows can often be repaired, re-glazed and weatherstripped, which keeps the original look that matters on many older Franklin homes. When frames are rotted through or the windows no longer open and close safely, replacement is usually the practical answer. We assess each window individually rather than recommending the same treatment for the whole house.
What is the difference between an insert and a full-frame replacement?
An insert sets a new window inside the existing frame, which leaves interior trim and siding mostly undisturbed but slightly reduces the glass area. A full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, so the flashing can be redone and any hidden rot repaired. Full-frame involves more finish work and a higher price, but it is usually the better choice when the old frame is damaged or the opening has a history of leaks.
