Franklin, TN · DoorsInterior and Exterior Doors in Franklin, TN
Entry, patio and interior doors hung plumb and square, weatherstripped tight and cased to match the rooms around them, for Franklin homes from historic houses to newer construction.

A door is only as good as the opening it hangs in
Most door problems start in the frame rather than the slab. An entry door that sticks every August and shows daylight every January usually hangs in a jamb that has shifted, over a threshold that was never sealed, or on a sill that has been rotting quietly from the bottom up. Replacing the door without correcting the opening only postpones the problem, so JACCO starts each door job by checking the rough opening for square, level and hidden moisture damage.
Franklin’s homes ask different things of a door. In an older house near downtown, the original front door, its transom and the five-panel doors inside are often worth keeping, and the work becomes careful repair: planing, re-hanging, fresh weatherstripping and hardware suited to the period. In established subdivisions and newer construction, the request is usually an upgrade, such as solid-core interior doors in place of hollow-core slabs, a dated slider swapped for hinged glass doors to the patio, or a plain entry given sidelights and more presence from the street.
Because JACCO is a general contractor, a door project can include everything around the door. When a new entry needs a wider opening, we frame a new header; when water has damaged the subfloor at a patio door, we repair it before the new unit goes in; and when the casing no longer matches the rest of the house, we match or mill trim to tie it together. One written scope covers the door, the opening and the finish, and our door installation and replacement work ends with a walk-through to check that every door latches, locks and swings freely.

Front doors, historic districts and Franklin permits
A front door is part of how a house meets the street, so on homes in one of Franklin’s historic districts, replacing an entry door or changing its style may need design review before work is scheduled. JACCO checks that during the bid, together with whether a City of Franklin building permit applies, which becomes more likely when an opening is widened or a new door is cut into an exterior wall. Interior door work is usually simpler, and we settle any requirements before ordering custom doors with long lead times.

Should we repair our original front door or replace it?
If the slab is solid wood and the damage is limited to the bottom rail, the weatherstripping or the hardware, repair is often the better choice, particularly on an older Franklin home where the door is part of the house’s character. Replacement makes sense when the door is warped, the core has failed or the frame has rotted past a clean fix. We look at the door and the opening together during the site visit and price both options when either one is reasonable.
Can a sliding patio door be replaced with hinged French doors?
Usually, yes. A hinged pair needs room to swing and a different frame size, so the opening may need adjusting, and the flooring and trim around it are finished to suit. If the new doors are wider than the old slider, a new header carries the load above them and a permit may be required. We measure, check the structure and confirm those details in the written scope before anything is ordered.
